Wrapping up Measurement!

What a busy week! We are wrapping up a few units and can you believe its already half way through MAY? Where does the time go!

This week in Math we talked about our last two section in measurement, are and volume. Using different sized blankets, flags and towels we used filling and covering to compare their area. Then we practiced our filling skills to measure out the area of paper and puzzle pieces.

Looking at objects and through centers we have learned how to compare objects by filling them with non-standard units to see which has the bigger area or volume. We have also worked with covering objects on top of one another to find out which has the larger area!

Creating different areas with playdough!

We had a big focus on the long A vowel sound this week. We talked about all our long vowel sounds and the patterns we see. This week we worked with words that follow the a_e pattern, such as, make, cake, name and tape.

To wrap up our dinosaur unit we talked about the difference between Facts and Opinions. We know that facts are something we learn that is proven and opinions are what we think about a topic. The students had to sort out things about our topic of dinosaurs into fact or opinion.

In Social we looked at murals all over Canada! There are so many close by small towns that are covered with murals! We discussed that murals show the history, lineage and symbols the are represented in the town. We have already started our own Leduc mural!

In Science we wrapped up plants by finishing our All About Plants book and a quiz! We started to discuss spring time changes we see compared to the other three seasons.
