A Few Reminders:
 We Skate M/W at 10:30am and T/TH at 12:30pm.

Donation envelops will be collected on Feb. 14th

"Robina Baker is pleased to be holding a Heart & Stroke Jump Rope for Heart event on Valentine's Day. All money raised will support Heart & Stroke in their mission to promote children’s health and fund vital heart and stroke research.

Jump Rope for Heart encourages kids to get active by skipping rope while they collect pledges for heart disease and stroke research. They also learn the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and giving back to their community. This year Heart & Stroke is striving to get 1 million kids jumping in close to 4,000 schools across Canada and we area part of it!

Please help support your child’s fundraising efforts by registering them online atjumpropeforheart.ca and send out donation request emails to friends, family, and colleagues. Online fundraising is the quickest way to reach all of your contacts and online donors receive an automatic tax receipt. Plus, when students raise money online they can earn bonus prizes including a skipping rope, and gift cards from Indigo, Toys “R” Us, and Canadian Tire!

Please visit jumpropeforheart.ca and start fundraising today!

Each student brought home a pledge envelope if you prefer to collect donations in-person. Please ensure that their pledge envelope is returned by February 14."

I know I say our weeks are busy every week, but holy cow were these past two weeks busy!

Last Monday, the Grade 4's put some brave faces on and toughed it out at Rabbit Hill on Monday! Our day actually started off quite nice as we were shielded from the wind. We had a lot of beginners this year, and it was so awesome to see everyone giving their best efforts!

Next stop, HMS Pinafore!
Grade 4's were invited to watch a rehearsal of the Edmonton Opera's performance of HMS Pinafore. Each and everyone student was engaged during the performance, and I would even say "wowed"!

Even with all this going on, we did manage to get some work done!

Students finalized their newspaper articles, summarizing our read aloud, Fart Powder. Our main focus with this was to ensure we could summarize a story read, including all the important details, and add voice to our writing.

In Math, we have done some review of some common rules when multiplying. Then students practiced their basic math facts (up to 5x5) through games and activities.

We also spent some time focusing on our doubles! If we are quick with our doubles facts it will help us immensely when we're multiplying numbers by 2.

This week, the Grade 4's started practicing multiply 1 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers. One of the strategies we worked with was breaking the problem up into easier equations, like separating 10's and ones.

Science 3
Grade 3's are starting to explore the world of Hearing and Sound! We have discussed how sound is energy and vibrations and did some experiments to test this theory out!

We also learned that sound is measured in decibels. Using a decibel metre, students dropped items onto the floor and described their loudness/softness, and recorded their decibels!

Science 4 - Waste and Our World is ALMOST DONE!
We have had quite a few interruptions with our unit, but the end is near!
This week we took a look at some of the ways that we dispose of waste (incinerator, landfill and open air dump) and will be comparing them. Students will have a home assignment to look into how waste is disposed of in their home, and where it goes!

Social 3
We are on our final chapter with India. This week we looked at Goods & Services and what types of imports and exports India has. Students will be working on infographics next week!

Winter Walk Day!
