Reading
We are continuing our novel study reading Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl. The students are absolutely loving the book!
Before each chapter we do a quick write, where students make connections to themes in the upcoming chapters. Some of these quick writes have really sparked some wonderful classroom conversations and brought out student's personal opinions.

As we read through we keep an eye out for 3 vocabulary words,  read them in context, and come up with synonyms/meanings for each word.

Once we are finished our book we will watch the movie! This will give the students to compare the two versions and express their preference.

Writing
Did you know we LOVE the Winter Games?
In lieu of KidBlog this week, we have shown our preferences and research in new ways! On Tuesday, students looked through all of Team Canada's Athletes competing. Using the search tools to filter athletes by sport, home province or game, they choose their favourite athlete.

Wednesday, our research began! Students used the same site to read all about their athletes and created their very own Olympic Athlete Trading Cards in google drawings!

How's Canada doing?

Thursday we mixed in a little Statistics and Probability. Students checked Canada's Medal count and used the data to create picture graphs in google drawings!
Students labelled their graphs on each axis, choose icons to represent each medal and created their own graph.

Then they shared them on our new classroom Seesaw, where they could view peers work, give compliments and suggestions!

Math
Both grades are working very hard on their math fact fluency.

Grade 3's continued to work with fact families, and are working to solve multiplication problems with the strategy that suits them best. We are going to continue to practice our basic facts.

Grade 4's were introduced to 3 digit x 1 digit problems this week with regrouping. This skill needs lots of practice and we're continuing to work on it through word problems and using the strategy that suits them best.

Science 3
Students labelled and read about the human ear and labelled a diagram of all the parts.

Science 4
Students read about Toxic waste this week and how it can affect our environment. It is important that we properly dispose of our waste and understand where the safe disposal areas are in our community.

Social 3
Students have been working on a Video Journal Reflection, "India; In My Own Words" on their learning in India. In google slides, students have topic questions to cover and through video they share their thoughts, opinions and what they learned.
Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Arts, Crafts & Fun!

Friday afternoon we made some bobsleighs in art! Thank you for sending in the little figurines! Then we took to the halls and had some races!
